Programming in Randolph
*LISO: Looking Inward, Speaking Out
LISO is an expressive arts group for adolescents that meets Mondays after school until 4:30 at the Chandler Center for the Arts in Randolph. LISO cultivates a safe and supportive environment in which participants can engage in different forms of self-expression. Meetings generally begin with an opportunity for participants to share thoughts, feelings, and concerns relating to their own lives and the larger world. The group then transitions into a focus on artistic expression of these issues. LISO participants engage in artwork that is at times independent - an improvised dance, a drawing, a story - and at other times collective - a collaborative mural, a parade banner, a skit. Facilitated by Josey Hastings. For a schedule of meeting times, click here.
*Healing Arts for Women
Healing Arts for Women is open to all women who have experienced traumatic events (whether loss, illness, abuse or other harm) and wish to heal through creative expression. A variety of art forms are used to nourish, with imagination and compassion, in a safe and supportive environment. Meets monthly in the Markle Room at Gifford, 6-7:30pm, 3rd Thursday. Facilitated by Bonny Willett.
*Sexual Abuse Survivors Youth Group
Sexual Abuse Survivors Youth Group is open to young women ages 12-25 who have experienced any type of sexual assault or abuse and started during the autumn of 2008. This group provides a safe space where these young women may share a time of healing expression. Location and time to be changed in Jan.2009—call SafeArt. Make referrals to SafeArt Director Tracy Penfield, who will facilitate, 685.3138. Thanks to grants and donations, the above groups are free of charge.
*RUHS residencies
RUHS Residencies have been held for the past two years and continue this year in Deb Lary’s Health classes. Students from other classes may arrange to be involved. We look at issues of human relationships with an emphasis on becoming Proactive Bystanders at school and in our homes and communities. Participants create pieces to be shared with their schoolmates and the community. Tracy and Josey facilitate.
*Chandler Performances:
PErformances at the Chandler have become an annual event, and are an opportunity for the SafeArt Ensemble and RUHS residency participants to share their stories on the main stage. Shedding light on dark topics such as domestic/sexual violence and related issues, like substance abuse, self-harm and peer bullying is our intention, with a goal of empowering people of all ages to speak out against abuse. This event is offered as a Benefit for the Orange County Domestic and Sexual Violence Task Force. For a schedule of performance dates, click here.
