Making SafeArt!
is a curriculum guide for practioner training, making available SafeArt methodologies. With grants from the VT Women's Fund and VT Community foundation, SafeArt Founding director Tracy Penfield created this guide and has tried it out in workshops across VT for DV/SV workers, teachers, conselors, and social workers. Enthusiastic response has encouraged us toward formal publication.

Quotes from “Making SafeArt!” participants:
“When I registered for this workshop I wondered if we could accomplish anything in 3 hours. Much to my surprise and delight we not only received an overview of SafeArt, but we also learned ways to use the techniques in our work AND got to experience it for ourselves! Tracy works magic! Thank you!"
-Amy Hornblas, Youth Services Coordinator, AWARE, Hardwick VT
“Tracy, I enjoyed the training very much and experienced you as a very open and grounded facilitator. The SafeArt training brought a new awareness of the dimension of music as an important form for expressing a story. You are doing such important work. Thank you for all that you do and for sharing with us.”
-Kary Bennett, Psychotherapist, Morrisville, Burlington and Stowe VT
“Thank you, Tracy! The workshop put me in myself and showed me who I am and how beautiful I am.”
-Angela Grace, DV specialist AWARE, Hardwick VT
“Thank you for sharing your energy and compassion with our group. The responses were very positive and I was pleased that so many left their comfort zones to participate in the movement activities…again, thank you for your expertise and the work you put into your thoughtful presentation.”
-Gwen Hawk, Education Manager, Parent Child Development Center, Turners Falls MA
I believe the title "SafeArt" speaks volumes for the way the facilitator conducts the program as well as the program it's self. Never have I been able to disclose to a group of people ~with no regrets ~ the countless sexual assaults I have endured through my teen years along with the fact that I am now battling both anorexia and bulimia. The level of safety and the support overwhelmed me. Thank you.
